Silverlake Sconce
Greene & Greene Inspired Wall Sconce — Gamble House
The Silverlake is among the most architecturally striking sconces in the Craftsmen Studio collection, inspired by the wall lighting found in the guest rooms of the Gamble House in Pasadena — Charles and Henry Greene's 1908 masterwork of Arts and Crafts design. The defining feature is the bell-shaped shade, which flares dramatically outward from its narrow top to a broad, sweeping lower rim. Rather than sitting in a conventional bracket, the shade is suspended by two leather straps that loop over a shaped crossbar on the wall mount — a detail that is simultaneously functional and unmistakably Greene & Greene in its reverence for honest, visible construction.
The wall bracket is built from African mahogany with square ebony peg details at the joinery — the same hallmark of Greene & Greene's refined craftsmanship seen throughout the Gamble House. The stained glass panels are handmade using the copper foil method, featuring a dogwood flower motif on a warm amber background that glows richly when lit. A single socket rated for up to 75 watts provides warm, directional light ideal for a hallway, entryway, staircase, or flanking a fireplace.
