Loma Wall Sconce
Greene & Greene Inspired Wall Sconce — Gamble House
The Loma wall sconce is adapted from the original dining room wall lighting of the 1908 Gamble House in Pasadena — Charles and Henry Greene's most celebrated commission and one of the finest surviving examples of Arts and Crafts architecture in America. The wall bracket is broad and architecturally substantial, with shaped corners, square Gaboon ebony inlay details, and a projecting multi level roof from which the lantern hangs — giving the fixture a strong, grounded presence on the wall rather than the lighter appearance of a conventional sconce bracket.
The stained glass is mimics the cloud lift presented in the roof which wraps around the latern. The side panels feature a bat in flight in the upper corners, a detail found throughout the Gamble house. The combination gives the Loma a refined visual balance that works well both as a single fixture and as a matched pair. Each sconce can be made as either a left- or right-facing version, as shown in the gallery, making it ideal for flanking a doorway, fireplace, or hallway passage. Single socket rated for up to 75 watts.
