Greene and Greene's Thorson House Chandelier

The Monterey Chandelier is a reproduction of the original entry lantern from the William R. Thorsen House in Berkeley, California, completed in 1909 — one of Charles and Henry Greene's most significant Northern California commissions and a landmark of the American Arts and Crafts movement.

Handcrafted from hand-selected African mahogany with genuine Gaboon ebony inlays, the Monterey features a large window cut through the woodwork that frames and showcases the stained glass at its center — drawing the eye directly to the fixture's most extraordinary detail. The glass panels are handmade using the copper foil method, worked into a delicate cobweb pattern rendered in warm amber glass.

A single-socket design, the Monterey produces a focused, intimate warmth rather than broad illumination — making it ideal as a welcoming centerpiece in an entry hall, where its lantern form and cobweb glass create an immediate sense of arrival. This is Brett's personal recommendation for entries, and it's easy to see why.
